One way you may be able to bring in some extra cash is to become a delivery person. These days you don’t have to go and work for a big company like FedEx or UPS if you want to deliver stuff.

Instead, you can become an independent contractor. Independent contractors who deliver stuff may get to choose their own hours. They can often choose which deliveries they want to take and which they don’t as well.

What’s Cool About Being a Delivery Partner

Companies who partner with independent contractors often have cool apps that allow you as a contractor to deliver as you please. This means you get to have a lot more control over what and where you deliver to this way.

Let’s face it: it’s whole lot more fun when you get to have control over what you do and when you do it. On that note, here is a list of some of the best delivery partner app gigs we found, and some details about each one.

Maybe one or more of these companies can be your side hustle ticket to financial success.

1. Uber Eats

You may have heard of Uber. Uber is a ride request app that brings people from point A to point B. People partner as independent contractors and drive others to their requested destination.

Well, Uber Eats utilizes independent contractors to deliver food to customers. As with the other delivery apps, when you deliver with Uber Eats you can set your own schedule.

You can also choose your own wheels. Depending on the city you live in, you can deliver with a car, scooter, bicycle or other modes of transportation.

Uber Eats is available in many cities throughout the United States. As an independent contractor, Uber will pay you an amount for each delivery. You also have the potential to earn tips as many Uber Eats delivery partners do.

Note: you do have to be at least 19 years of age to deliver with Uber Eats. You also have to have a car that is 1999 or newer.

Bonus: you can get qualified to do both Uber Eats delivery and do regular Uber rideshare rides taking people places.

2. DoorDash

DoorDash specializes in delivering restaurant meals to clients, and they’re always searching for Dashers. Dashers use the DoorDash app to find jobs delivering to people.

As a Dasher, you might deliver a restaurant meal to a person or family at their home or somewhere else. There are all sorts of cool things about delivering food to people:

  • You get to find out about great restaurants you may not have heard of
  • You’re involved in bringing people meals, and it’s always good to eat
  • You get to earn extra cash

When you deliver with DoorDash you get paid per delivery. Bonus: many dashers earn tips as well. Maybe you’ll use your DoorDash earnings to pay for a much-needed vacation. Or to get out of debt.

Here’s what you need to know about becoming a Dasher for DoorDash. You have to have a valid drivers license and current auto insurance policy. Dashers have to sign a contract to deliver, so you have to be at least 18 years of age.

Also, you cannot have more than 3 moving violations in the last three years. Dashers have to have driving records that are free of major violations such as DUI, assault, etc.

DoorDash operates in thousands of cities all across the U.S. and Canada, including most major U.S. cities.

Note: Some cities even allow dashers to use other types of vehicles besides cars. Depending on the city regulations, you may be able to Dash using a scooter, bicycle or by walking. The DoorDash website has more information on what the different cities allow.

If you like the idea of delivery food to people, this could be a fun app for you to try.

3. Postmates

Postmates delivery drivers deliver all sorts of things. As a driver for Postmates you might deliver a restaurant meal, a grocery order or a liquor store order. Customers like Postmates because they make all deliveries in under an hour.

This company operates in dozens of cities all over the United States.

Some of the cities Postmates operates in include:

  • Manhattan and New York City
  • Chicago
  • Fort Lauderdale
  • Miami
  • Phoenix
  • Boston
  • Los Angeles and San Francisco
  • Seattle and Portland
  • Salt Lake City
  • West Palm Beach

And many, many more. To qualify to be a deliverer for Postmates you have to be 18 years of age or older. You also have to have a qualified delivery vehicle for your city (car, bicycle, scooter, etc.).

Postmates hires deliverers with an upbeat and positive attitude. In return for a great work ethic, you’ll get paid well and even have the potential to earn tips. The Postmates website says that their drivers earn up to $25 per hour.

4. Instacart

Instacart shoppers deliver groceries to people at home. Their app makes it easy to get jobs and get paid fast. As a full-service shopper for Instacart, you’ll shop for peoples’ groceries based off a list Instacart gives you.

Then you’ll hop in your car and deliver the groceries to the client. As with DoorDash, when you sign up to be an Instacart full-service shopper, you choose the hours you work.

That means you have the pleasure of choosing your work schedule based on what’s best for you. You also get paid every week – plus you can earn tips as well.

To be a personal grocery shopper for Instacart, you need to meet the following qualifications:

  • You have to be 18 years of age or older
  • Be eligible to work in the United States
  • Have consistent access to a vehicle (including insurance)
  • Be able to use efficiently and have consistent access to a newer model smartphone
  • Have the physical capability to lift between 30 and 40 pounds without assistance

It helps too to know the basic layout of local grocery stores in your area. This will help you earn more as you’ll be able to shop faster for customers. Shopping faster means you’ll be able to take more deliveries and earn more money per hour.

This could be a fun side hustle for you if you like the idea of shopping/delivering groceries to people.

5. Favor Delivery

As with Postmates, Favor Delivery will deliver what clients need in less than an hour. Favor’s “runners” can work part-time or full-time.

When you’re a runner with Favor, you’re more like a personal assistant. You might deliver groceries, a restaurant meal or pick up and deliver a dry cleaning order.

In order to be a runner, you have to be 18 years of age or older and have a reliable vehicle. You also need to have a clean driving and/or other record.

All scheduled hours have minimum guaranteed pay rates. Most runners earn between $10 and $18 per hour.

Favor is available in a variety of U.S. cities including:

  • Arlington, Dallas and Fort Worth Texas
  • Washington DC

6. Caviar

The Caviar app allows clients to get the food they love through delivery or pickup. When clients want food delivered, they need drivers like you to bring it to them.

If you start working as a Caviar courier, you’ll get paid up to $25 per hour for delivering food. You get to see earnings, pickup and drop off locations before you take a job.

Knowing where you’ll be going and what you’ll get paid helps you decide whether or not a job is right for you.

Bonus: as a Caviar courier, you can choose to get paid after each and every delivery.

Also, Caviar has a dedicated support team in place that is ready to chat whenever you need them.

To be a courier for Caviar, you need to be 18 years of age or older and have a car, truck, scooter or other vehicle. Remember that each city has its own ordinances regarding what types of vehicles can be used for delivery.

And you have to have a working smartphone so that you can check for jobs on the Caviar app.

7. Saucey

Saucey offers 30-minute delivery of your favorite alcoholic beverages right to your door. When you become a Saucey courier, you get to set your own schedule. You use your vehicle to deliver to customers.

And you can choose to deliver in a part of town that you’re familiar with. This is important because Saucey operates in large cities.

Saucey is currently operating in the following metropolitan areas:

  • Los Angeles
  • San Francisco
  • Chicago
  • San Diego
  • Sacramento
  • Oakland

They do ship to other areas of the country, but of course you wouldn’t be delivering there. When you deliver with Saucey, you’ll earn cash for each delivery. You also have the potential to earn tips. Note that you have to be 21 years of age in order to deliver for Saucey.

8. Eaze

If you live in California, you could become a delivery driver with Eaze. Well, you actually don’t work for Eaze, but for one of the dispensaries that Eaze works with.

You see, the Eaze app helps coordinate delivery of marijuana orders to customers. And they need drivers to make those deliveries.

When you drive for an approved dispensary using the Eaze app, you’ll generally work between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. You’ll get paid an hourly wage from the dispensary, plus mileage reimbursement for each delivery. Bonus: you may earn tips as well.

9. Deliv

Deliv offers same-day delivery to individuals and small businesses. Most Deliv drivers deliver items from local malls and retailers.

As a Deliv driver you might deliver clothes, flowers or alcohol. They even have a separate delivery program called Deliv RX for those who need pharmaceutical items delivered.

Deliveries are typically within a 15-mile radius of where you live. And you’ll generally deliver to residences, hotels and workplaces.

When you become a driver for Deliv, you use their app to tell them when you’re available. Then they’ll send you delivery jobs to complete.

Qualifications to be a Deliv driver:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older and have a smartphone with a data plan
  • Your vehicle must be 1998 or newer
  • You’re required to speak English fluently and have great customer service skills
  • You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • And you must have at least one year of driving experience and be able to pass a background check.

You can choose to work “when you want, how you want” with Deliv. Deliv says their top delivery specialists earn up to $22 per hour.

Drivers who sign up ahead of time and submit their hours for the coming week get priority jobs. You have to have a motor vehicle to deliver for Deliv. An exception is if you live in New York City. New York City deliverers can use bikes or walk in some areas.

Deliv is available in multiple cities throughout the United States.

10. OrderUp

OrderUp specializes in food deliveries. Currently, OrderUp operates in several states and is growing.

You can be an OrderUp driver if you live in:

  • California
  • Colorado
  • Indiana
  • Missouri
  • Oklahoma
  • Oregon
  • Virginia

Note that new states and cities are being added regularly. When you become a driver for OrderUp, you get paid a commission on each delivery you make.

Make Money as a Delivery Driver

As you can see, there are many opportunities to make money in the delivery business. And, you can choose to deliver just about anything you want.

Note that with all delivery jobs where you work as an independent contractor, you’ll have certain financial responsibilities. Independent contractors are required to keep track of income and expenses.

They’re also required to pay taxes on any income they earn, including tips. We recommend saving a portion of all delivery income and setting it aside for tax time.

That way you’ll be financially prepared for any income taxes due.
